Woman Screams Overnight For Help On Vine Street After Angry Ex Grabbed Her Throat: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — Alex Montgomery, a 24-year-old Joliet man who was served with an order of protection earlier on Tuesday, is now spending his Wednesday in the Will County Jail in connection with allegations he tried to strangle a woman who wants him out of her life.

It also took the Joliet police a lot of effort to take Montgomery into custody because he was not willing to go away quietly, his arrest report alleged.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 2:25 a.m., overnight duty officers responded to an apartment in the 800 block of Vine Street after a caller reported hearing a woman screaming for help.

He said the officers found a woman who appeared to have been involved in a physical altercation. The woman and her infant were escorted by officers from the apartment to a
safe location.

The woman had been inside the apartment gathering belongings when she encountered her ex-boyfriend. English said Montgomery had reportedly been served with an order of protection earlier that day.

"During their interaction, it is alleged that Montgomery pulled her to the ground and grabbed her by the throat, impeding her ability to breathe," English said. "Montgomery also allegedly bit the woman on the face and attempted to drag her back into the apartment after police arrived."

How did Joliet police manage to make the arrest?

At the scene on Vine, Montgomery reportedly locked himself inside a bedroom and refused repeated commands
from officers to exit, the arrest report showed. By that point, the officers then forced entry into the bedroom and took Montgomery into custody without further incident.

Before being brought to the Will County jail, Montgomery was charged with aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, and violation of order of protection.
