The resident-run event at Covenant Living will feature handcrafted gifts, food and a quilt raffle benefiting educational grants.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Holiday shoppers can browse handcrafted gifts, resident artwork and collectibles while supporting student employees and local organizations at Covenant Living of Northbrook's Merry Market.
The public event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 7 in the community's Town Center, 2625 Techny Road, according to organizers.
Formerly known as Holly Fair, the resident-run marketplace will feature holiday decorations, woodcrafts, jewelry, antiques and other items. Baked goods, specialty foods and lunch offerings will be available in the Common Grounds Cafe.

Proceeds help fund educational grants for graduating high school students employed in Covenant Living's dining services department. A portion also supports local organizations, including the Northbrook Police and Fire departments, Northbrook Public Library and Northfield Township Food Pantry.
"The new Merry Market name reflects the joyful spirit of this event while honoring the tradition that residents and guests have enjoyed for many years," Merry Market Chairperson Marge Andersen said.

Dozens of residents volunteer throughout the year, making items and helping plan and operate the market.
"This event showcases the creativity and generosity of our residents and provides a wonderful opportunity for neighbors and friends to start their holiday shopping while supporting meaningful causes," Andersen said.
Visitors can enter a free raffle and purchase tickets for a separate quilt raffle supporting the educational grant program.
The quilt raffle features "Roots to Wings," an oversized quilt created and donated by award-winning Deerfield quilter Karen Grage. Organizers said it was designed as a gift for a student leaving home for college.
Resident donations and support from Covenant Living's administration also contribute to the educational grants.
"Giving back to the community is an important part of who we are," Andersen said. "The Merry Market allows residents to share their talents while supporting students and organizations that make a difference in our community."
