1. 2 Loaded Handguns Recovered After Gunfire Report: Palatine Police (patch.com) — Palatine residents are learning more about a recent gunfire investigation on East Independence Drive that led police to seize two loaded handguns, ammunition and suspected controlled-substance pills. A 17-year-old Palatine boy now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated discharge of a firearm and weapons offenses tied to both the Sept. 2 incident and an earlier June 1 case.

Palatine To Mark 25 Years Since 9/11 With Memorial Ceremony (patch.com) — Palatine is inviting residents to a Patriot Day Memorial Ceremony this Friday morning at the Firefighters Memorial downtown, marking 25 years since the 9/11 attacks. Fire and police personnel will march from Station 85, lower the flag, place a wreath, and ring the bell in a brief, reflective program honoring victims and first responders.
   

3. Of halls of fame and a beloved coach (dailyherald.com) — Palatine readers learn of the passing of longtime Palatine High School baseball coach and alumnus Jim Koller, who led the Pirates from 1977 to 2002, the program's longest tenure. 4. Bringing it on home: Retired firefighter and auto shop owner restore vintage fire truck for New York fire company (dailyherald.com) — A former Palatine volunteer firefighter and the owner of A & A Body Shop in Palatine spent two years restoring the front of a vintage New York fire truck to honor 9/11 and fire service history. Their work is deeply rooted in memories of the 1973 Ben Franklin store fire in downtown Palatine, which claimed three firefighters' lives, including the shop owner's father.
