• Illinois calls for review of Flock cameras following national surge of misuse (dailygazette.com) — Skokie officials are launching a comprehensive review of the village's automated license plate reader system after residents packed a Sept. 8 board meeting to raise privacy and misuse concerns. Police leaders defended the cameras' crime-fighting value, outlined data limits and security rules, and promised a new transparency portal, while trustees pressed for safeguards before next spring's budget decisions and the 2028 Flock contract review.
   

• Man sentenced for painting hate symbols at NU (evanstonnow.com) — A Niles man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after admitting he painted Nazi symbols on Northwestern University property, in a case prosecuted at the Skokie courthouse. The hate-crime conviction underscores how courts serving Skokie and nearby communities are responding to antisemitic vandalism, following earlier similar offenses at Jewish institutions in Rogers Park.
