Mass Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 14 Wounded In Washington Park

CHICAGO—Gunfire erupted at a large gathering late Saturday evening that left a man dead and 14 injured at what was described as a reunion for for residents of the former Robert Taylor homes, reports said.

Just after 11:30 p.m., Chicago police were sent to disperse a large crowd in the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when someone began shooting into the crowd. No officers were injured.

A 35-year-old man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Rontonio Guterz, sustained gunshot wounds to the body and was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Hospital.

Police said the injured ranged in age from 21 to 47, all were taken to nearby hospitals, including:

• A 34-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was listed in good condition.
• Three men suffered shoulder wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital, ages 34, 39 and 40, where they were listed in good condition.
• A 40-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with a shoulder wound.
• A 45-year-old woman self-transported to a hospital with a leg wound and is listed in good condition.
• A 26-year-old woman suffered a chest wound and is listed in good condition.
• A 42-year-old man was shot in the leg and is listed in good condition.
• A 37-year-old woman suffered gunshot wounds to her body; her condition is unknown.

During their investigation, Chicago police identified four other victims:

• A 47-year-old woman is in serious condition at a hospital
• A 23-year-old woman is in fair condition.
• A 21-year-old woman is in fair condition.
• A 23-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the body; his condition is unknown
