📰 News we're reading

1. IPS to stop using Enroll Indy, drawing criticism from charter school leaders (mirrorindy.org) — Families in Indianapolis Public Schools will soon enroll through PowerSchool instead of the Enroll Indy website, a change set to start with the 2027–28 lottery opening November 5. District leaders say the switch will save more than $300,000 annually amid looming budget cuts, while charter advocates worry it will complicate school choices and may conflict with the new Indianapolis Public Education Corporation's authority.

2. Riley again makes U.S. News 'Best Children's Hospitals' list (insideindianabusiness.com) — Families in Indianapolis can take pride that Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health has again been recognized nationally, ranking in all 11 pediatric specialty categories on U.S. News & World Report's Best Children's Hospitals list. It's the only Indiana hospital included, with especially strong showings in urology, pulmonology, and nephrology, giving local parents more confidence in specialized care close to home.

3. Photos: Exploring history at Indy's Global Village Museum (indianapolisrecorder.com) — An Indianapolis student journalist used the Global Village Museum's Juneteenth exhibit to explore how painful parts of history are preserved and interpreted today. Her photo project, created through the JAWS fellowship with the Indianapolis Recorder and local partners, documents artifacts from slavery, racist imagery, and Ku Klux Klan materials donated by Indianapolis residents to help spark deeper conversations about race and memory.

4. Spin Doctors Announce 2027 'Pocket Full of Kryptonite' 35th Anniversary Tour: Full Dates and Album Performances (rockumweb.com) — Spin Doctors will kick off their 35th anniversary "Pocket Full of Kryptonite" tour at The Vogue in Indianapolis on February 18, 2027, playing the album front to back. Local fans will be first to hear the full classic set before the band heads to cities like Detroit, San Francisco, New York, Dallas, Tulsa, and Boston.

5. Purdue value proposition continues to drive strong demand, undergrad enrollment increases (purdue.edu) — Purdue University reports surging undergraduate enrollment this fall, including 645 freshmen at its Indianapolis campus and thousands more Indiana residents overall. With tuition frozen for 14 years and graduation and retention rates climbing, the university says strong demand is driving new housing and record systemwide enrollment that could benefit Indianapolis students seeking an affordable four-year degree.
