Care Animal Center, Davenport, to hold food drive to help QCA shelters, rescues (ourquadcities.com) — Care Animal Center on West Kimberly Road in Davenport is hosting its 13th annual Furry Friends Food Drive on Saturday, Oct. 3, to support crowded Quad Cities shelters and rescues. Residents can donate pet food or cash, meet adoptable animals, enjoy kids' activities, and enter a raffle, all while helping local pets stay fed and out of shelters.

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) Announces Summer 2026 President's List (rcreader.com) — Several Davenport students have earned a spot on Southern New Hampshire University's Summer 2026 President's List, including residents from ZIP codes 52801, 52802, 52803, 52804, 52806, and 52807. The honor recognizes full-time undergraduates who achieved at least a 3.7 GPA during the summer term, highlighting strong academic performance from the Davenport area.
   

3. State News: Infant Death Investigation, Epstein Files Exhibit, Hospital Milestone, Hit-and-Run Arrest and River Bandits Championship (westerniowatoday.com) — Davenport baseball fans can celebrate as the Quad Cities River Bandits, who play at Modern Woodmen Park, have captured the 2026 Midwest League Championship. A late two-run homer sealed a 2–1 win and a series sweep over the Dayton Dragons, giving the team its fifth league title since 2011.
   

4. Agriculture in the Classroom looks to inspire next generation of farmers and innovators (ourquadcities.com) — Third graders in the Davenport Community School District recently stepped outside their usual lessons to explore how nearby farms shape their food and future careers. Through Agriculture in the Classroom, local farmers and students demonstrated modern technology, nutrition science, and ag-related jobs, aiming to spark interest in everything from drone operation to agricultural communications.
   

5. Iowans balk at gas price bounce, and diesel is more expensive than ever before (kgloam.com) — If you're filling up in Davenport, you're paying the lowest gas prices in Iowa right now, even as the statewide average has jumped to $4.40 a gallon. AAA says conflict in the Middle East and crude oil costs are driving the spike, with diesel setting a new state record at $6.19 per gallon.
