• Death of man in Minnesota being investigated as a homicide in Des Moines (who13.com) — Des Moines police are investigating the death of a Minneapolis man as the city's 14th homicide of 2026, after linking it to a July 5 altercation near Court Avenue downtown. Detectives are still piecing together what happened and are asking anyone with information to call their tip line.
   

• Federal disaster assistance approved for four Iowa counties after July storms (cbs2iowa.com) — Federal disaster assistance has been approved for storm-damaged communities in Polk, Jasper, Story, and Warren counties, directly benefiting the Des Moines area after early July flooding. FEMA's Public Assistance funding will help local governments and nonprofits cover emergency work and repair or replace damaged facilities, with the possibility of more counties being added after further assessments.
