📰 News we're reading

• Overland Park approves new world headquarters for Black and Veatch (fox4kc.com) — Overland Park has approved Black and Veatch's new world headquarters and a massive $1.1 billion Overland Park Plaza II redevelopment at 112th and Lamar, bringing offices, housing, hotel space and a park. Construction on the nine-story headquarters starts with a groundbreaking in mid-November and is expected to wrap in 2029, with the broader multi-phase project stretching through 2038.

• JoC's biggest cities already have parks sales taxes. Overland Park may be next (johnsoncountypost.com) — Overland Park leaders are weighing a new dedicated parks sales tax, ranging from 1/8 to 3/8 of a cent, to fund the city's 10-year Playbook OP plan. If the council proceeds, voters could see a mail-in special election in spring 2027, shaping how parks, trails and recreation are maintained and expanded across the city.
