Overland Park moves closer to trash system overhaul but key details still need sorted (johnsoncountypost.com) — Overland Park is moving toward a city-organized trash and recycling system that could replace today's patchwork of private haulers and big cost differences between HOA and non-HOA residents. City leaders just approved a nonbinding resolution to explore contracts with one or more haulers, gather public input, and draft a detailed plan over the next 90 days, with any new system starting no earlier than 2029.
   

2. Overland Park City Council approves 2027 budget (kshb.com) — Overland Park's City Council has unanimously approved a $515.9 million budget for 2027, keeping the property tax rate unchanged while slightly increasing overall spending. The plan prioritizes public safety staffing and training, outdoor warning system maintenance, and IT support for the city's fiber network, aiming to preserve strong services for residents next year.
   

3. Wichita's Regina Klenjoski Dance Company premieres 'Adieu' at New Dance Partners in Overland Park (shoutwichita.com) — Overland Park residents can catch Wichita's Regina Klenjoski Dance Company premiering a brand-new contemporary work at Johnson County Community College's Midwest Trust Center this Friday and Saturday. The New Dance Partners program features four world premieres, including the company's collaboration with acclaimed choreographer Katarzyna Skarpetowska. Tickets for the Yardley Hall performances start at $25 through the Midwest Trust Center box office.
   

4. Man sentenced for 2021 deadly DUI crash in Overland Park (fox4kc.com) — A driver involved in a 2021 deadly DUI crash in Overland Park has been sentenced to just over 10 years in state prison. Investigators say he was driving at extreme speeds and well over the legal alcohol limit before striking 75-year-old Barbara Patterson's vehicle at 127th and Quivira, where she died at the scene.
   

5. Sedalia area crash reports for Sept. 17 (sedaliademocrat.com) — A 30-year-old Overland Park man suffered serious injuries in a Johnson County, Missouri crash Tuesday night when his car was struck on the driver's side along U.S. 50. A 37-year-old Olathe woman in the other vehicle had minor injuries and declined treatment. Both were wearing seat belts, and the Overland Park driver was taken to a Warrensburg hospital.
