Sep 22 Military Relations Council Service Awards Luncheon (tkmagazine.com) — Topeka residents can reserve tickets now for the Military Relations Council Service Awards Luncheon on Nov. 10 at the Dillon House downtown. Hosted by the Greater Topeka Chamber, the event will honor up to 15 service members and civilian supporters from regional military organizations and spotlight the strong ties between Topeka's business community and local military families.
   

2. Topeka Fire Department installing smoke detectors for free, here's how to sign up (ksnt.com) — Topeka households can now request free smoke alarms and installation from the Topeka Fire Department, which says working detectors can cut the risk of dying in a house fire by 60 percent. Partnering with the Red Cross, crews will visit Topeka homes of all sizes and floors, with online links available to sign up and find additional Kansas fire‑safety resources.
   

3. Man found guilty in crash that killed Topeka teacher (wibw.com) — A man has been found guilty of misdemeanor vehicular homicide in the 2024 crash that killed Topeka second-grade teacher Ashleigh Boyd on SW 53rd Street. The Topeka-area case details his speeding and lane violation, notes her role at Lowman Hill Elementary, and sets sentencing for November, bringing an important update for residents who followed the tragedy.
   

4. KBI eyes downtown Topeka site for future headquarters (ksnt.com) — State investigators plan to move the Kansas Bureau of Investigation's headquarters to a new, more secure site in downtown Topeka near SE 10th and Quincy, improving access to the Statehouse and parking. With lawmakers already authorizing major funding, design could start soon, followed by up to 20 months of construction, putting the new facility on track to open around early 2029.

Pete Mundo Expands to KFRU Columbia MO (radio-online.com) — Topeka listeners now share a regional talk-radio lineup as KFRU in Columbia, Missouri adds Pete Mundo's KCMO-based morning show, joining Topeka's 102.9 KTOP, which began simulcasting KCMO programming in June. The move strengthens a three-city network across Kansas City, Columbia, and Topeka, though it follows recent staff cuts at KFRU.
