Waterline break causes closure on SW MacVicar Avenue in Topeka (ksnt.com) — Drivers in central Topeka should avoid southbound Southwest MacVicar Avenue between 16th and 17th streets, where a broken waterline has forced a closure expected to last through week's end. City officials are detouring southbound traffic via Southwest 12th Street, Gage Boulevard and 17th Street while crews address the problem.
   

2. National Opioid Awareness Day: How a dispenser is keeping Washburn students safe (wibw.com) — Washburn University students in Topeka now have free, discreet access to lifesaving Naloxone from a new Narcan dispenser inside the Student Health Center at Morgan Hall. Supported by the Kansas Attorney General's Office and Emily's Hope, the effort pairs the medication with ongoing education from campus police to better protect students from opioid emergencies.
   

3. Cold Case Files: A nine-year delay in reporting a Topeka man missing in Carroll County left a cold trail for invetigators (todayinfortsmith.com) — A long-running cold case still haunts Topeka, where police continue seeking answers about Terry Cornell George, a local man who vanished after being dropped off in Eureka Springs in 1989. Nearly nine years passed before he was reported missing, and even recent DNA testing on nearby remains ruled him out, leaving investigators again asking Topekans for any memories or leads.
   

4. Topeka man dies following motorcycle crash (ksnt.com) — A 35-year-old Topeka man has died from injuries suffered in a Sept. 12 motorcycle crash on U.S. 75 just north of the city, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Troopers say he crossed the east fog line and wrecked in the median, later dying at a local hospital on Sept. 15.
   

5. Diesel hits record high price nationwide and in Kansas (wibw.com) — Kansas drivers, including many in Topeka, are facing record-high diesel prices, with the statewide average hitting $6.23 per gallon and regular gas also sharply higher than last year. Trucking companies and farmers are bracing for steeper daily fuel bills, costs that could ripple into food prices and other essentials for households across the region.
