Dr. Wendy Blair Harrod, DNP joins SUN Behavioral Health’s intensive outpatient center in Lexington.

Dr. Harrod is a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for the Center, which opened in July 2022.

Dr. Wendy Blair Harrod, DNP joins SUN Behavioral Health’s intensive outpatient center in Lexington as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In more than three years of operating an intensive outpatient center in Lexington, SUN’s mental health professionals have served more than 800 people in Fayette County and the surrounding Bluegrass area. SUN also operates a psychiatric hospital in Erlanger in partnership with St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

Dr. Harrod began her nursing career in 2006 as an RN, gaining experience in a variety of healthcare settings. She earned her RN from Hazard Community College.

In 2015, she began advancing her education and ultimately earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Frontier Nursing University (FNU) in 2018. She is also board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Throughout Dr. Harrod’s career as a family nurse practitioner, her practice focus included urgent care and family medicine.

She continued her education at FNU and, in 2019, completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), with research centered on improving care in a public health setting for people who suffered from substance use disorders.

Dr. Harrod went on to earn a post-graduate certificate in psychiatric and mental health nursing across the lifespan and, in January 2021, became board certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Dr. Harrod is originally from Hindman and now resides in Lexington.
