📰 News we're reading

1. WKYT Investigates: Lexington Police working to solve 63-year-old missing persons case

Lexington police are revisiting the 1963 disappearance of resident Barbara Lunsford using modern DNA tools and national databases, and they're asking anyone in Lexington with even small memories to come forward. Investigators recently ruled out a possible match to an unidentified woman killed in Ohio, but that work strengthened both cases. With most potential witnesses aging, detectives stress that any tip from longtime Lexington residents could finally unlock answers. (wkyt.com)

2. Purple Peace Pumpkins placed across Lexington for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Purple Peace Pumpkins are popping up across Lexington this month to spark conversations about domestic violence and connect survivors with local and national resources. About 150 purple pumpkins are displayed at businesses citywide, backed by the Domestic & Sexual Violence Prevention Coalition and the University of Kentucky's VIP Center. Organizers hope the visible symbols remind Lexington residents that help is available for adults and children. (lex18.com)

3. Lexington Urban County Council unanimously extends data center moratorium for one year, set to end Oct. 2027

Lexington's Urban County Council has extended the citywide moratorium on new data centers through October 31, 2027, after residents urged tougher limits on large tech projects. Councilmember Emma Curtis fast-tracked the vote, citing health and environmental concerns, while a proposed Dart Points facility at Lexmark and two zoning changes will return to council later this month. 4. Lexington edges Louisville in renter rankings, but Louisville leads on housing

Lexington renters rank ahead of Louisville overall thanks to a stronger local economy and quality-of-life scores, including better school ratings and shorter solo-driving commutes. However, Louisville still wins on housing costs, apartment size, and share of newer units in prime locations. For Lexington residents weighing a move or comparing cities, the report highlights tradeoffs between affordability, job growth, and everyday living conditions. (lanereport.com)

5. Residents weigh in on mayoral debate, UKInvest finances, and rooftop pools

Lexington residents are buzzing online about the latest mayoral debate, zeroing in on snow-removal plans, Flock license plate readers, and leadership style ahead of the November 3 election. Other local threads dissect UKInvest's financial advice, a quirky rooftop pool at a downtown bar, recent military aircraft flyovers, and sharp gas price swings that sparked political back-and-forth.
