📰 News we're reading

1. New affordable housing apartments for seniors opens in Wellington area. What to know (kentucky.com) — A new 45-unit Wellington Park Apartments complex has opened on Lexington's southside, offering affordable, accessibility-focused housing for seniors 55+ earning no more than half the area median income. One- and two-bedroom units are priced at $775 and $910, near shopping and the future Shillito Park senior center. The project was heavily backed by Lexington's affordable housing and infrastructure funds, plus state support.

2. Third Street Stuff and Coffee won't reopen, new owners announce permanent closure (fox56news.com) — A beloved staple of downtown life, Third Street Stuff & Coffee in Lexington has announced it will close permanently after previously shutting down for an ownership transition. The decision follows months of union organizing, strikes, and a community fundraiser supporting affected workers. Owners thanked Lexington customers for years of support and said they will miss the community.

3. Thrifting, faith and the art of connection (kykernel.com) — Inside Central Christian Church's thrift shop in downtown Lexington, volunteers are turning a former segregated bus station into a welcoming hub where low-cost clothes, conversation, and quiet acts of care support neighbors in need. Regulars, from college students to seniors and people experiencing homelessness, find dignity, friendship, and faith-infused kindness that often matters more than the bargains. For many Lexingtonians, it's become a chosen family as much as a store.

4. Lexington veteran receives donated heat pump after week without AC (wkyt.com) — A Vietnam veteran living near Woodford Park in Lexington is resting easier after a local HVAC company donated and installed a new heat pump when his 15-year-old unit failed. Three-Sixty Heating and Air stepped in after he spent a week without air conditioning, giving him a 12-year warranty and a cooler home for him and his beloved miniature horse, Darleigh.

5. 500 Career Wins: Celebrating Craig Skinner's Ongoing Legacy (lex18.com) — UK volleyball coach Craig Skinner just hit the 500-win milestone, cementing a historic run built right here in Lexington with nine straight SEC titles, two Final Fours, and a national championship. The third-ranked Wildcats are again poised to contend, and local fans can follow extended highlights and coverage on LEX 18's BBN Tonight. His success continues to spotlight Lexington as a national volleyball powerhouse.
