📰 News we're reading

1. Cyclists demand safer streets, expanded bike lanes beyond Louisville's downtown and NuLu

Louisville cyclists are stepping up pressure for safer streets and more protected bike lanes beyond downtown and NuLu, arguing many neighborhoods still lack basic infrastructure. A local club's weekly ride from Trellis Brewery doubled as an organized safety demonstration, including a push for a protected bike lane on the Second Street Bridge to better link Louisville with southern Indiana. 2. Dasha Barbour's emergency alcohol suspension lifted following fatal shooting

A downtown Louisville restaurant, Dasha Barbour's Southern Bistro, can again serve alcohol but must follow strict new rules while Metro ABC and LMPD investigate a Sept. 12 shooting that killed a 17-year-old and injured another teen. The bistro must operate strictly as a restaurant, avoid third-party events, and limit entertainment, with the threat of another immediate suspension if violations occur. (whas11.com)

3. FBI's 'Train Like an Agent' open to public Oct. 8

Louisville residents interested in FBI careers can join a free "Train Like an Agent" fitness and information session on Oct. 8 at 9 a.m., hosted by the FBI Louisville office. Participants will run through the official physical fitness test with current agents, then hear directly about the application process and career paths; registration is required through the FBI's online form. 4. Louisville police use Flock system, grappler device in trooper shooting arrest

Louisville residents saw an intense police presence as LMPD used the Flock license‑plate system and a grappler device to help capture the suspect accused of killing Kentucky State Trooper Hayden Phillips. Streets near Millers and Dixie were briefly blocked and witnesses reported hearing shots, while state police leaders asked Kentuckians to remember Phillips on what would have been his 29th birthday. 5. 'Let's take care of the kids coming up behind us': Dale Romans makes the case for Simmons sports

A Louisville luncheon for Simmons College of Kentucky brought together trainer Dale Romans and new University of Louisville basketball coach Pat Kelsey to raise money for the school's growing athletics program. Local leaders highlighted how sports open doors for students, and donors quickly pledged enough to cover a new athletics website and more, with additional contributions still coming in to support Simmons' teams.
