Man dies in vehicle collision in Louisville's South End (courier-journal.com) — A man died after a vehicle hit a parked car Saturday night on the 7900 block of Candleglow Lane in Louisville's South End, according to Louisville Metro Police. Officers say the driver fled on foot but was found nearby, and LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating while no charges have been filed yet, highlighting ongoing safety concerns on local streets.
   

2. Woman arrested after police say she abandoned her children at a Menards before driving off and into a ditch while impaired (kens5.com) — Louisville Metro Police say a local mother was arrested after allegedly leaving her two children alone at the Preston Crossing Menards, then driving away impaired and crashing into a ditch on Hackberry Way. Officers reportedly tracked her via a child's phone, found suspected marijuana in the vehicle, and conducted sobriety and drug evaluations. She faces multiple charges and is due in court Sept. 28.
   

3. Man hospitalized after shooting in Russell neighborhood (wlky.com) — A man was shot in the back Sunday night on the 2800 block of West Chestnut Street in Louisville's Russell neighborhood and was taken to the hospital, though his condition hasn't been released. Louisville Metro Police's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating and asking anyone with information to call the anonymous Crime Tip Line or use the online tip portal. Neighbors may notice increased police presence as the case develops.
   

4. Lights of Hope vigil lights up Ohio River in memory of overdose victims (wave3.com) — A Lights of Hope vigil along the Ohio River in Louisville honored people lost to overdoses while offering encouragement to families still struggling with addiction. Started by a mother who lost her daughter, the annual event uses lanterns and colored ribbons to symbolize addiction, recovery, incarceration, and loss. Organizers emphasize that treatment, healing, and recovery remain possible, and share the 988 helpline for support.
   

5. 'Movie magic': New thriller 'The Spiral Down' filming in Kentucky (wlky.com) — Louisville is doubling as a movie set this fall as the psychological crime thriller "The Spiral Down" films scenes around the city and across Kentucky. With a Hollywood cast, local locations, and help from state film tax incentives, the production showcases Louisville as a versatile backdrop and growing hub for independent filmmaking, with release expected next year after a festival run.
