📰 News we're reading

1. Traffic accident this spring leads to indictments (westkentuckystar.com) — Paducah Police say a five‑vehicle crash on Hinkleville Road in April, which later claimed the life of a Missouri woman, has resulted in grand jury indictments. Two drivers now face murder and complicity to murder charges after investigators concluded they were traveling around 80 mph in a 45‑mph zone before the collision that injured multiple people and damaged several vehicles.

2. Officials: Erie, Illinois man charged with taking minor across state lines for illegal sexual activity (wbko.com) — Federal officials say an Illinois man drove to Paducah to pick up a minor and take them back across state lines for illegal sexual activity, leading to child exploitation charges. Investigators from the FBI's Paducah office and the McCracken County Sheriff's Office are handling the case, and a conviction could bring at least 10 years to life in federal prison.

3. Congressional Bills H.R. 1276, H.R. 2069, H.R. 2196 and H.R. 5366 Signed into Law (vannuysnewspress.com) — A new federal law removes all deed restrictions from a 3.62‑acre parcel previously conveyed to the City of Paducah, potentially opening it up for new local uses or development. The same bill signing also covered national transparency, EMS memorial, and disaster tax relief measures, but the land change is the piece most likely to affect Paducah residents directly.

4. Steven Redford Hobbs, 64 (marshallcountydaily.com) — A Benton man with deep western Kentucky roots, born in Paducah in 1962, has died at age 64. Family and friends can pay their respects at Collier Funeral Home, with visitation Thursday evening and funeral services Friday afternoon, followed by burial at Benton Church of Christ Cemetery.

5. APSU Women's Golf Force Playoff, Place Second at The Velvet - Clarksville Online - Clarksville News, Sports, Events and Information (clarksvilleonline.com) — A women's college golf tournament at Paducah Country Club saw Austin Peay State University charge up the leaderboard, force a playoff, and ultimately finish second. Senior Jillian Breedlove and several teammates posted strong rounds on the Paducah course, giving local fans a high‑level glimpse of regional collegiate golf competition and setting up their next match in Kentucky later this month.
