Paducah neurologist Dr. Joseph Ashburn is preparing to bike about 150 miles from Paducah to Nashville to thank the cancer team that treated his acute myeloid leukemia, marking a crucial three-year milestone. Alongside his work at Baptist Health Paducah, he's built a strong local cycling community through Spokes for Strokes, coaching youth riders, and now owning BikeWorld, keeping both health and charity rooted in Paducah. 2. General Matter seeks enrichment licence

Paducah is poised for a major nuclear industry investment as start-up General Matter seeks federal approval to build a $1.5 billion uranium enrichment plant at the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant site. The project aims to restore U.S. nuclear fuel supplies, reuse thousands of cylinders of existing uranium hexafluoride, and could bring significant long-term economic and jobs impact to the Paducah area. 3. National Weather Service Urges Fall Severe Weather Preparedness

Paducah's National Weather Service office is urging western Kentucky residents to get ready for potentially severe fall storms and is offering a free basic storm spotter class on October 19. Meteorologist Christine Wielgos explains how warmer fall conditions can extend severe weather season and stresses understanding warning language so you can react quickly when storms threaten. 4. Deputies find woman hiding in closet, meth in man's underwear during Farley investigation - KBSI FOX23 News Cape Girardeau News

McCracken County deputies arrested three people during a drug investigation at a Farley home, including a Paducah man allegedly found with about 16 grams of meth hidden in his underwear. A woman with multiple warrants was discovered hiding in a closet, and another man from Bowling Green was arrested after meth and paraphernalia were found, with all three taken to the regional jail. 5. Proliferation News October 1, 2026

Buried in a global nuclear news roundup is a major local development: General Matter has applied to federal regulators to license a commercial uranium enrichment plant in Paducah with plans to later seek approval to produce advanced HALEU fuel.
