1. 2 Baton Rouge caregivers arrested after 74-year-old woman found dead (wafb.com) — Deputies in Baton Rouge arrested two caregivers after a 74-year-old woman was found dead in a Shady Bluff Drive home, where she had reportedly been bedridden since a stroke. Investigators allege she did not receive needed medical care for serious sores, despite advice to take her to a hospital. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner will perform an autopsy, and authorities stress the charges remain allegations while the investigation continues.
   

2. Walk this way (redeyebr.com) — Baton Rouge residents walk far more than the national average, ranking 14th among big U.S. cities for pedestrian miles per person, but the city lags badly in bike use. A new mobility report highlights how students, runners, and residents without cars drive the strong walking numbers, while limited safe bike infrastructure holds cycling back. Officials are urged to fully implement the parish's pedestrian and bike master plan to connect neighborhoods with safer sidewalks, crossings, and bike lanes.
   

3. Former Denham Springs softball umpire sentenced to 135 months on child porn charges (wgno.com) — A Denham Springs man was sentenced in Baton Rouge federal court to more than 11 years in prison for exchanging explicit images and videos with a minor. Prosecutors say the 40-year-old, who had worked as a softball umpire for teen tournaments, sent sexual content to the girl and pressured her to respond in kind. Officials are using the case to warn parents that predators can appear in everyday youth activities.
   

4. Sep. 27 - We're finally at the point when the Capital Area joins the dark side (wbrz.com) — Baton Rouge has just passed its fall "equilux," the day when we experienced an almost perfect balance of daylight and darkness at 12 hours and 40 seconds of sun. From now until spring, nights will steadily grow longer, thanks to Earth's tilt, the way sunrise and sunset are defined, and atmospheric refraction that slightly extends daylight here.
   

5. Women's Tennis completes fall opener in Nashville (roarlions.com) — North Alabama's women's tennis team wrapped up a strong fall opener in Nashville and is now preparing to compete in Baton Rouge. The Lions will head here October 8–12 for the ITA Regionals hosted by LSU, bringing additional collegiate tennis action and visitors to local courts, hotels, and restaurants.
