New Orleans nonprofit launches home repair status tool (neworleanscitybusiness.com) — New Orleans homeowners waiting on free critical repairs from Rebuilding Together New Orleans will soon be able to check their application status online starting Sept. 9, using just their address and date of birth. The nonprofit hopes the new tool, built with local tech group Civilized, will cut down on daily status calls, speed up processing, and better serve low-income, elderly, and disabled residents needing roof, electrical, and accessibility work.
   

2. 'We want to stay in New Orleans.' Essence responds to New Orleans' demands (nola.com) — New Orleans officials are pressuring Essence Festival's parent company as its contract with the city expires Sept. 4, questioning unpaid bills, vendor payments, and demanding more transparency before approving new incentives. Essence leaders say they want to stay in New Orleans long term, highlighting jobs, tax revenue, and hotel occupancy while city leaders weigh whether to invite competing festivals for the July 4th weekend slot.
   

3. SWBNO to cover tree removal, property restoration after Lake Terrace leak (wwltv.com) — New Orleans' Sewerage and Water Board will pay to remove a fallen tree and restore a Lake Terrace property damaged during repairs to a leaking water main on Killdeer Street. Crews have stopped the leak, restored water service, and are installing a new pipe, with full site repairs expected by early to mid-next week, weather permitting.
   

4. SBC President Willy Rice reminds NOBTS students of the need for shepherds • Biblical Recorder (brnow.org) — Students at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary recently heard Southern Baptist Convention president Willy Rice urge them to consider serving as pastors, emphasizing the need for committed "shepherds" in churches. Speaking in a campus chapel service, Rice praised the seminary's work and reminded students that their education should ultimately prepare them to lovingly lead congregations.
   

5. Telle signs record of decision for IHNC Lock replacement in New Orleans (workboat.com) — A top Army official has approved the environmental record of decision to replace New Orleans' 103-year-old Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lock, a key gateway between the Mississippi River and Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The proposed $5.2 billion-plus project would build a larger, modern lock north of the current one, promising faster barge traffic but still needing congressional authorization and funding before construction can begin.
