• School officials celebrate drop in chronic absenteeism, but are still shy of goal (newsfromthestates.com) — Hall's Cross Roads Elementary in Aberdeen has slashed chronic absenteeism from nearly 44% to under 15% in just two years, making it a statewide model. Maryland officials say family engagement, incentives, and stronger student-teacher connections are driving better attendance, even as overall absenteeism remains higher than pre-pandemic levels across many districts.
   

• Academy for Excellence Celebrates 2026 Graduates (mdcounties.org) — Two Aberdeen officials, William H. Montgomery III and Tandra A. Ridgley, were among 124 local leaders statewide honored as 2026 graduates of the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance. Their completion of intensive training on ethics, budgeting, and effective meetings means Aberdeen residents gain better-prepared representatives as they tackle local issues and long-term planning.
