Gunshots Inside MoCo Mall Turn Out To Be Firecrackers

A report of gunshots fired at Montgomery Mall turned out to be firecrackers set off at the food court, Montgomery County police said.

BETHESDA, MD — Reports of gunshots fired at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda were quickly shut down Saturday after police confirmed that firecrackers had been set off at the site.

The Montgomery County Police Department said officers received a call around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, dispatching two officers alongside members of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

Officials determined that firecrackers had been set off at the mall’s food court.

Police did not specify who set off the firecrackers and did not indicate whether any charges or other disciplinary actions were being taken.

No injuries were reported at the scene.
