📰 News we're reading
1. Luke's Lobster Closes Permanently After Nearly 15 Years (mocoshow.com) — Luke's Lobster has permanently closed its Bethesda Row location on Bethesda Lane after nearly 15 years, ending the chain's only presence in Maryland. The family-owned seafood spot, which opened in 2012, leaves local fans heading to the still-open Penn Quarter restaurant in D.C. if they want the same lobster rolls.

2. William Bradford Bishop: The Family Annihilator Who Vanished (the-line-up.com) — A notorious 1976 family murder that began in a Bethesda home still haunts investigators, as suspected killer William Bradford Bishop remains missing nearly 50 years later. The longform piece revisits the Bishop family's life in Bethesda, the brutal killings, and decades of fruitless leads, including an international manhunt and time on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.

3. Agenda - NIAAA Advisory Council Meeting on September 17, 2026 (nih.gov subscription) — A federal advisory council on alcohol abuse is meeting at NIH's Rockledge Drive facility in Bethesda on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with public access via livestream. If you're interested in alcohol research, peer review changes, or NIH's use of AI, you can tune in to the open sessions online.

4. Bethesda bus lane removal underway (blogspot.com) — Overnight work is removing the temporary bus-only lanes on Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda, restoring the right lane in each direction to general traffic after this summer's Metro station closures. State highway officials rejected Montgomery County leaders' push to keep the lanes, saying performance data didn't justify making them permanent, so drivers should soon see more flexibility along this busy corridor.
