16-Year-Old Charged As Adult In Prince George's Community College Shooting: Police

LARGO, MD — A 16-year-old Upper Marlboro boy has been arrested and charged as an adult with attempted murder in the Thursday shooting of another teenager at Prince George's Community College, police said.

The suspect, whose name was not released, is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder and related offenses. Prince George's County police said the 15-year-old victim suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and has been released from the hospital.

Police said the two teenagers had been involved in a dispute before the shooting on the Largo campus.

Officers first learned of the shooting around 11:40 a.m., when the wounded teenager walked into a medical center. Police were called to Prince George's Community College around noon and determined the teenager had been shot on campus before seeking medical attention.

The shooting prompted Prince George's Community College to order students to shelter in place as numerous police officers responded to the campus. Nearby Largo High School was also placed on lockdown as a precaution. Both lockdowns were later lifted.

Police said the 16-year-old fled after the shooting. The department's Fugitive Unit, which is part of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested him Thursday.

The teenager was taken to the Department of Corrections, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
