Bowie Woman Shot Holding Baby During Fight About School Supplies: Police
More details have emerged in the shooting of a Bowie woman who was holding a 2-month-old baby. The couple was arguing about school supplies.
BOWIE, MD — More details have emerged in the shooting of a Bowie mother who was holding her baby during an argument about school supplies, charging documents show.
The 38-year-old woman was holding her 2-month-old baby and fighting with the baby's father, Kimball Hinton Jr., 41, about affording school supplies, documents stated.
One of the couple’s six children, who were all in the house located in the 8500 block of Myrtle Avenue of Bowie when the shooting happened, called police at 4:16 p.m. Thursday. The child told the 911 dispatcher that her mother had just been shot by her father, court documents state.

Hinton then called police two minutes later, according to the documents, and admitted shooting her. When police arrived, Hinton was waiting in the front yard.
“I shot her, the gun is in the mailbox,” Hinton told officers, according to charging documents.

Officers arrested him, found a Sig Sauer .380 handgun at the scene and went into the home to find a woman lying on the floor of the master bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Hinton waived his Miranda rights and told investigators what had happened.
Hinton said he and his partner had been arguing over their inability to buy back-to-school supplies for their six children. She was sitting on their bed, holding their 2-month-old child during the argument and another child tried to intervene. He left the room and returned, then fired two rounds from his pistol. He noticed his partner had been hit when she made what he said were groaning noises, charging documents stated.
Hinton is prohibited from owning a gun due to prior convictions that include assault in 2009 and a weapons violation in 2008.
Hinton has been charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment and other firearm-related charges in connection with the shooting.
