Around 11:35 p.m. on Friday, Prince George's police officers saw two suspicious vehicles in the area of Suitland Road, Randolph Road and Reamy Drive in Suitland. Officers followed the vehicles in marked police cruisers when they turned onto Reamy Drive, which police described as a narrow, dimly lit dead-end street.

One of the vehicles drove off the road and through a residential yard toward officers, police said. For reasons still under investigation, an officer on scene fired their service weapon, hitting the adult male driver, police said.

Officers immediately administered first aid and the driver was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, the police department stated.

The officer had on a body-worn camera. The IID will generally release body-worn video footage within 20 business days of an incident. There may be situations where more than 20 days are necessary, including when investigators need more time to complete witness interviews, when technical delays are caused by the need to shield the identities of civilian witnesses, or when family members need time to view the video before it is released to the public.

The IID continues to investigate the circumstances of this fatal police-involved shooting. Anyone with information about this incident, including cell phone or private surveillance video, is asked to contact the IID at (410) 576-7070 or by email at IID@oag.maryland.gov.
