• Man Convicted In Shooting Death Of Girlfriend's Father In Columbia (patch.com) — Residents of Columbia are learning more about a 2024 neighborhood tragedy after a Howard County jury convicted Corey Conaway of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend's father on Half Dollar Court. Jurors also found him guilty of firearms offenses and attempting to influence a witness, and he now faces sentencing in December in Howard County Circuit Court.
   

• 2027 Grants Will Expand Access to Exercise Programs for People Affected by Cancer (healthandfitness.org) — Columbia residents affected by cancer will soon see expanded, specialized exercise programs at Columbia Association, thanks to a new American Cancer Society grant. The funding will train at least three local staff in exercise oncology and support new or strengthened programs, aiming to make safe, research-backed physical activity more accessible during and after treatment.
   

• MAKE YOUR MONDAY: Old Shoes Turn Into 500 Pairs for Local Students (iheart.com) — Columbia residents helped turn bags of unwanted shoes into at least 500 pairs for students at Title I schools across the region. Seasonal Roots delivery drivers, including many running routes through Columbia, collected donations from customers' porches and raised additional cash for the Montgomery County student-led nonprofit Lift Every Step.
