Charges Pending Against Woman Who Hit Officer, Crashed Into 5 Cars: Police

SEVERN, MD — A woman was arrested late Thursday after she hit a police officer and five other cars with a vehicle she forcibly took from a relative.

Police have not yet publicly identified the woman, but did state charges are pending in the case.

A release issued by the Anne Arundel County Police Department states the incident was reported just after 9 p.m., when officers were alerted to a hit-and-run crash in the area of North Crain Highway and 11th Avenue in Glen Burnie.

At the scene, officers learned the woman had crashed into another vehicle and then took a family member’s car after that relative arrived to help her.

The woman was later traced to the 8500 block of Pioneer Drive in Severn, where she was still inside the car. Upon approach, police said she drove toward the officers, striking two patrol cars, a civilian vehicle, and one of the officers.

Although officers did discharge their firearms and the woman suffered a gunshot wound to her shoulder, she continued to drive away from the scene until she crashed into another civilian car.

It wasn't until officers spotted the woman trying to get into another occupied car near Severn's Telegraph Road that she was arrested.

Injuries suffered by the officer and the woman were both described as non-life-threatening. The officer has since been released from the hospital.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The officers who fired their weapons are on administrative leave, per protocol.
