Federal Judge Blocks Maryland From Enforcing Prohibition On Concealed Carry in Silver Spring Synagogue (shootingnewsweekly.com) — A federal judge has temporarily blocked Montgomery County from enforcing its new gun-free zone rules against Silver Spring Jewish Center and its rabbi, allowing licensed congregants to carry at the synagogue. The ruling, focused on both Second Amendment and religious freedom claims, applies only to this Silver Spring congregation for now, while broader legal challenges to the county's 100-yard gun restrictions continue.
   

2. Silver Spring man convicted for 2024 murder of man found shot in alley (dcnewsnow.com) — A Silver Spring man has been convicted of second-degree murder and handgun use in the 2024 shooting death of Jamar Jenifer in an alley near the Galaxy Apartments on 13th Street. Jurors saw surveillance video of the brief encounter and heard a recorded conversation where the shooter showed no remorse; he now faces decades in prison at sentencing in December.
   

3. Report shows fewer troubled rental properties, but Silver Spring and Takoma Park lead the list (mymcmedia.org) — Silver Spring renters are seeing fewer buildings flagged for serious code problems, but the town still tops Montgomery County's list of troubled properties alongside Takoma Park. A new county report credits tougher inspections, rent stabilization, and new tenant protections after the Flower Branch explosion, while noting thousands of units have come off the Troubled and At-Risk lists since 2024.
   

4. Trivium Premiere "Dead Inside Of Me" Music Video (theprp.com) — Metal fans in Silver Spring can catch Trivium at The Fillmore on November 10 as part of the band's newly announced tour with Fit For An Autopsy. The group just released a new single, "Dead Inside Of Me," from their forthcoming eleventh album, giving locals a preview of what they'll hear live this fall.
   

5. FDA held a public hearing on psychedelic therapies as Trump's push to speed approvals gathered pace (qz.com) — Silver Spring hosted a high-profile FDA hearing at the White Oak campus on how to safely roll out psychedelic therapies, drawing testimony from doctors, veterans, and advocates. Speakers pressed regulators on training standards, patient screening, insurance coverage, and long-term safety, as the Trump administration pushes the agency to speed development and approval of these treatments.
