Man Accused Of Discarding Loaded Gun Before Boarding Boston Bus

BOSTON, MA A man is facing multiple firearm charges after Boston Police recovered a loaded handgun that was allegedly left inside a flower planter in downtown Boston.

Ramon Joseph Miles, 55, was arrested Monday following an investigation that began Aug. 17, when officers responded at approximately 8:48 a.m. to the area of 136 Harrison Ave. for a report of a found firearm. Police were told a person cleaning flower planters and picking up trash had discovered the gun.

Detectives secured the firearm and determined it was a Davis Industries P-380 semi-automatic handgun loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

During the investigation, detectives reportedly determined that a person had discarded the firearm before boarding a Silver Line bus on Friday, Aug. 14. The person later returned to the planter and found that the firearm was no longer there, according to police. Detectives obtained images of the person and distributed them to officers in the area.

On Monday, officers assigned to the Drug Control Unit saw Miles standing on Temple Place waiting for the Silver Line and determined he matched the description from the investigation, police said. Officers approached Miles and learned he also had an active warrant issued out of Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Miles was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, improper storage of a firearm, and armed career criminal, Level 3.
