The incident, which followed another shooting near Russell Field in North Cambridge just a day earlier, has prompted an ongoing police investigation, though authorities say there is no broader threat to the community.
   

2. After Years Of Rising Vacancy, Kendall Square Starts To Gain Momentum From AI (bisnow.com) — Kendall Square's long-slumping office and lab market is finally seeing fresh momentum, as AI firms like Anthropic, Blitzy, and Walden Robotics sign major new leases in Cambridge. Local brokers say AI now accounts for most recent leasing, while big pharma projects from AstraZeneca, Biogen, and Takeda add thousands of workers and signal renewed confidence in the neighborhood's future.
   

3. United States Cambridge Sets Harvard Square Ablaze with Oktoberfest Energy and HONK Bands (travelandtourworld.com) — Harvard Square will be packed this Sunday as Cambridge's 47th Oktoberfest and the HONK Parade shut down key streets from 7 a.m. into the evening. Expect music stages, beer gardens, Filipino American Festival events, chalk art, and big crowds stretching from Massachusetts Avenue to Church Street, so plan extra travel time and consider public transit instead of driving.
   

4. Suspect in Cambridge Planet Fitness assault knew victim, assaulted employee who tried to help, prosecutors say (boston.com) — Prosecutors say a registered sex offender accused of assaulting a woman in the women's locker room at a Cambridge Planet Fitness also attacked an employee who tried to intervene. The suspect, arrested at the Porter Square gym on Oct. 1, has pleaded not guilty in Cambridge District Court and is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Oct. 16.
   

5. Margaret Hamilton, who led a software team for NASA's Apollo program, dies at 90 (theintelligencer.com) — A pioneering computer scientist who spent most of her adult life in Cambridge and helped design the Apollo moon-landing software has died at 90. Margaret Hamilton, a longtime Cambridge resident and MIT collaborator, led the team that created NASA's onboard flight software and later founded local software companies, becoming an influential symbol for women in technology and earning the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
