The project designer recommended a partial roof replacement following a feasibility analysis and development of a schematic design.

MELROSE, MA — The high school will receive more than $1.1 million in state funding for a partial roof replacement project.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority Board of Directors approved the funding on Wednesday, Oct. 28, through its Accelerated Repair Program. The project has a total budget of $2,976,462, with an estimated maximum state grant of $1,108,668.

City grant-tracking records identify the work as the high school's Learning Commons roof project. Construction is estimated to cost approximately $2.3 million. Raymond Design Associates Inc., the project's designer, recommended a partial roof replacement following a feasibility analysis and development of a schematic design. CSL Consulting LLC is serving as the owner's project manager.

According to the MSBA, the proposed replacement will meet the authority's sustainability requirements. The city is also completing accessibility upgrades separately that must be finished before the roof work is complete. Melrose was invited to participate in the Accelerated Repair Program in October 2025.

The state will reimburse 49.94 percent of eligible project costs, with some expenses excluded because they exceed the program's cost limits. An additional $46,195 could be available for eligible contingency expenses, bringing the maximum possible grant to $1,154,863, subject to MSBA review and eligibility determinations.
