Peabody Man Charged With Drug Trafficking, Child Endangement, Animal Cruelty: Police (patch.com) — Peabody residents are learning more about a major Goodale Street police investigation that led to drug trafficking, child endangerment, animal cruelty, and ammunition charges against local resident Duarte Silva. Following a six‑month probe and a search warrant at his Peabody home, officers from multiple area departments assisted city police, with the case now headed to Peabody District Court. The incident marks the second time in just over two years that a search at the address resulted in drug-related charges.
   

2. Peabody Opens 2026 Discounted Rain Barrel Program (patch.com) — Peabody homeowners have a chance to cut water bills and conserve during the ongoing drought through the city's newly opened 2026 discounted rain barrel program. Residents can order $85–$89 barrels online by Oct. 6 and pick them up Oct. 17 at the Peabody Department of Public Services. The repurposed, mosquito‑screened barrels help capture roof runoff, support gardens in dry spells, and reduce strain on local water supplies.
   

3. Peabody To Tackle Bikes, E-Bikes, Scooters, E-Dirtbikes Safety (patch.com) — Peabody families can learn about bicycle, e-bike, scooter and e-dirt bike safety at a free community forum on Sept. 24 at Higgins Middle School. Local police, Safe Routes to School, Boston Children's Hospital and school leaders will explain current laws, recent issues, and practical guidance for both parents and young riders, with plenty of time for questions.
   

4. Peabody Schools navigate PROTECT Act (peabodyweeklynews.com) — Peabody's School Committee has begun implementing the new state PROTECT Act, which governs how schools interact with federal immigration authorities, while noting tight timelines for required policy approvals. Superintendent Josh Vadala also reported one of the smoothest school openings in years, with especially large fifth-grade enrollment and more detailed numbers expected at the next committee meeting.
   

5. Peabody man pleads guilty to federal drug, firearms charges (peabodyweeklynews.com) — A Brazilian national living in Peabody has pleaded guilty in federal court to supplying fentanyl and cocaine to a North Shore drug network and illegally dealing firearms. Prosecutors say he also held a leadership role in a major Brazil-based criminal organization. His sentencing in December could bring decades in prison and substantial fines.
