📰 News we're reading

1. Peabody Plans Street Sweeping Ahead Of International Festival Following Nor'easter (patch.com) — Peabody residents should prepare for overnight parking bans Thursday as downtown streets are swept clean ahead of this Sunday's rescheduled International Festival. Key roads around Peabody Square will be cleared of storm debris after last weekend's nor'easter to ensure safer, cleaner festival conditions.

2. Peabody Institute Library Calendar: Oct. 1-7, 2026 (peabodyweeklynews.com) — Peabody families have a full slate of free library events this week, from baby and toddler storytimes to kids' art club, tech help, yoga, and teen volunteer opportunities. The Peabody Institute Library is also hosting a historic Old South Burying Ground walking tour on Boston Street and an evening concert, plus multiple Creativity Lab open sessions for hands-on projects.

3. Peabody City Council Moves Snow Removal Ordinance Forward (iheart.com) — Peabody residents may soon be required to clear snow from sidewalks citywide within five hours of a storm or face fines, under an ordinance advanced by the City Council. Ward 3 Councilor Stephanie Peach says the change would make Peabody more walkable and free city crews to focus on schools, parks, and other public properties after major winter storms.

4. Parents urged to take e-bike safety seriously (peabodyweeklynews.com) — Peabody parents are being urged to treat kids' e-bikes and e-scooters as serious vehicles, not toys, after a safety forum at Higgins Middle School highlighted rising risks. Local police, health experts, and a bike shop owner stressed helmet use, understanding e-bike classes and speeds, and clear family rules, warning that current laws and enforcement alone can't prevent dangerous crashes.

5. High school roundup/scores: Maddy Campbell sets up Barnstable volleyball win (bostonherald.com) — Peabody athletes were busy across several sports, with the volleyball team falling 3–0 to Marblehead but boys cross-country cruising past Beverly and the unified basketball squad topping Marblehead 46–33. The roundup also lists Peabody's soccer losses and dozens of other high school scores from around Massachusetts, giving local fans a quick snapshot of how regional rivals are faring.
