• Large State Grant Plants The Seeds For Somerville Tree Effort (patch.com) — Somerville is launching a major tree and sidewalk initiative after securing a $187,200 state grant, aiming to cool urban heat hot spots and improve accessibility on its narrow streets. City staff, consultants, and local groups will test innovative planting methods, design about 100 new tree sites, and gather resident feedback through virtual meetings, with planning slated through June 2027.
   

• A massive 35-band brass parade takes over Somerville for three days of free street music this October — ending at Harvard Square's 47th Oktoberfest (bostonuncovered.com) — Somerville will host the three-day HONK! Festival from October 9–11, bringing 35 brass and street bands for free performances across Davis Square and nearby neighborhoods before a huge parade into Harvard Square's Oktoberfest. Local and international groups, community jam ensembles, and hands-on art and singing activities invite residents to play, volunteer, or even host visiting musicians.
   

• Massachusetts woman rescued after injuring leg at Monadnock State Park (wwlp.com) — A Somerville woman was rescued after injuring her leg while hiking New Hampshire's Monadnock State Park, prompting an hours-long carry-out by conservation officers and multiple fire departments. She was stabilized on the trail, transported down difficult terrain, and taken by ambulance to Cheshire Medical Center for further treatment.
