Here's what Simon had to say:

Age?

29 years old.

Family?
Both sides of my family have lived the American dream. My father’s family fled Russia in the early 20th century for the chance to live in a democracy and practice their Jewish faith, while my mother immigrated from Sri Lanka, building a life and career in the U.S. I live in Sudbury with my partner.

Position sought?

State Representative for the 13th Middlesex District.

What is your party affiliation?

I am a Democrat.

Where did you go to school (high school, college, etc.)?

I grew up in Sudbury and I am a proud product of our public schools: Haynes Elementary School, Curtis Middle School, and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Class of 2015. I received a phenomenal education at L-S that profoundly shaped who I am. Afterwards, I attended Brandeis University in Waltham, where I graduated in 2019 with majors in politics, history, and philosophy.

What is your occupation?

I’m campaigning full-time for State Representative. For the past five years, I worked in the State House as the aide to our outgoing Representative, Carmine Gentile. Before that, I worked for the Commonwealth’s largest human services trade association, advocating for nonprofits that serve vulnerable populations, such as children without parents, people with severe disabilities, and adults dealing with substance abuse, mental health issues, and homelessness.

Have you previously or currently been elected to an office?

I have been a member of the Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee since 2023, when I ran to ensure that students continue to get an education as good as the one I received, and to bring my perspective as a former student to the committee’s discussions. My colleagues chose me as Vice-Chair in my first year and Chair in my second and third.

During that time, I was proud to work with our Superintendent to successfully negotiate a fair teachers’ contract, ban cell phones in classrooms, and expand transparency by releasing documents in advance of meetings and holding regular listening sessions.

Why are you running for this position?

When Rep. Carmine Gentile announced in February that he wouldn’t seek a seventh term, I took some time to think it over, and I decided to run to succeed him. Working on behalf of my home district for the last five years at the State House has been incredibly rewarding and meaningful, and I want to continue the work I’ve been doing to advocate for the needs and values of our communities.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is the cost of living, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Massachusetts is a wonderful place to live, if you can afford it. I will protect the excellent hospitals, schools, and green spaces that contribute to our quality of life here, while staying laser-focused on bringing down the biggest costs in your household budget. That starts with providing enough state aid for our town governments and schools to avoid burdensome property tax overrides. It means working toward universal childcare and tuition-free public higher education. And it means solving the housing crisis. Our communities must be places where our teachers and firefighters can live, where the American dream of home ownership remains within reach for young families, and where seniors are not priced out in retirement.

What sets you apart from other candidates seeking this position / How does your experience prepare you for success in this position?

With experience working on the state and local level, I’ll be ready on day one for the job.

Over the last five years, I have supported every aspect of the Representative Gentile’s work. I researched policy, drafted legislation, filed budget amendments, planned events, and helped constituents, among other responsibilities.

Within the district, we helped secure millions of dollars in state funding for local projects, including rail trails, the redevelopment of MCI-Concord, and the development of a new food pantry on the Sudbury-Wayland border. I also helped advocate against private jet expansion at Hanscom Airfield, because we need better public transit, not more private jets.

On Beacon Hill, I worked to advance critical legislation, including bills to establish a $20 minimum wage, allow same-day voter registration, make public higher education debt-free, and restrict unlawful deployments of the Massachusetts National Guard by the Trump Administration.

I am especially proud of my work providing timely assistance to constituents. Over several years I helped hundreds of residents, including those who were unfairly denied unemployment benefits, faced eviction, or sought fair treatment from private utilities.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Beyond the cost of living, I’m focused on great public schools, protecting our environment, and standing up for Massachusetts values.

On education, I want every student to have a strong start and a path to a good career, which means more state funding for preK-8. On the LS School Committee, I saw how difficult it is for districts to budget for and cover special education and transportation costs, in particular. I also believe we need to allow more students to pursue high quality vocational education.

On climate and the environment, I’ll work for a just transition to clean and affordable energy, protect families from toxic chemicals like PFAS, and conserve our natural spaces while making them easier for everyone to enjoy.

I also believe Massachusetts must live up to its values. I’ll fight to protect reproductive rights and equal access to health care, stand unapologetically with immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community, and defend our voting rights. And I’ll make sure veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, and others can get the services they need.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself?

Even though I am running unopposed for this seat, I want you to know that I have never once taken my election for granted. I have worked every day since launching my campaign to earn your vote on Tuesday, November 3rd.

My campaign has knocked thousands of doors and made thousands of calls to voters in each community, many of which I did personally. And, I’ve attended dozens and dozens of community events, from cultural celebrations to small business openings - even birthday parties - in order to meet people where they’re at

Through my former job and by running a robust campaign, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with residents from Sudbury, Concord, Lincoln, Wayland, and Marlborough, and to listen closely to both their hopes and their concerns for the future. And, I am honored to have the opportunity to take your voices with me to Beacon Hill in January.
