• Norfolk County Sheriff's Office to host 'House to House for Heroes' veterans' outreach in Avon on September 26th (franklinmatters.org) — Norfolk County's Sheriff's Office is bringing its 'House to House for Heroes' veterans outreach to Avon on Saturday, Sept. 26, and Walpole residents are encouraged to volunteer. The program, which has previously visited Walpole and other nearby towns, sends volunteers door-to-door with information on benefits, healthcare, housing, and employment resources for local veterans, starting from a 9:30 a.m. kickoff at Avon's VFW Post 8892.
   

• State Fire Departments achieve nation's fourth-highest emergency response rate (winthroptranscript.com) — Walpole's Fire Department is among several in Massachusetts that volunteered early for a new national emergency reporting system, helping the state reach the country's fourth-highest reporting rate. The NERIS platform lets officials analyze near-real-time incident data to guide funding, staffing, and safety decisions, replacing older systems that took months to produce reliable statistics. This shift could influence how resources are allocated to protect Walpole residents.
   

• Largest Applebee's franchisee, based in Independence, sued over employee data breach (cleveland.com) — A former server at the Walpole Applebee's is among several plaintiffs suing Applebee's largest franchisee after a major employee data breach exposed personal and financial information. Lawsuits say hackers accessed sensitive data for thousands of workers nationwide, and one plaintiff reports fraudulent bank charges and increased scam calls after the incident. The company is offering free credit monitoring and says it has tightened security.
