Chronic Disease Coalition Names Rep. Stanley 2026 Chronic Disease Month Legislative Champion

BOSTON — Wednesday, July 22, 2026 — The Chronic Disease Coalition named Representative Thomas M. Stanley (D- Waltham) a 2026 Legislative Champion in recognition of his work on behalf of patients living with chronic and rare disease.

Each July, the Chronic Disease Coalition recognizes lawmakers who have gone above and beyond for patients living with chronic and rare disease as part of Chronic Disease Month. Stanley is among this year's class of Legislative and Congressional Champions.

“Champions like Representative Stanley remind us of what’s possible when lawmakers look at policy through the lens of the patients,” said Mary Kay Clunies-Ross, Executive Director of the Chronic Disease Coalition. “Rep. Stanley has taken the time to listen to patients and work to make things better. That kind of accessibility and leadership is essential to the health of our families and communities.”

“It is an honor to be recognized as a 2026 Legislative Champion by the Chronic Disease Coalition, an organization who works incredibly hard to support those with chronic conditions access the care they need,” said Representative Thomas M. Stanley (D- Waltham). “As House Chair on the Aging and Independence Committee, I understand how important it is for the 79% of older adults with two or more chronic diseases to manage their conditions and maintain their independence and improve their quality of life. In advocating for my legislation (H.4425) to expand Medigap coverage for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients in Massachusetts, I heard so many heartfelt stories from patients and their families about the challenges of living with the disease, but also of the successful outcomes when they are able to access timely care. I am more determined than ever to fight for these individuals and families!”

The Coalition’s Legislative and Congressional Champions are nominated by patient ambassadors and legislative partners working on the ground in every state. Champions are recognized for a meaningful commitment to the chronic disease community — whether through sponsoring key legislation, engaging directly with patients, or bringing lived experience with chronic or kidney disease to their public service.
