• Waltham man arraigned on manslaughter charge after fatal gas station assault (bostonglobe.com) — A Waltham man has been arraigned on a manslaughter charge after a May 27 fight at Woodside's Service Station on Weston Street left 23-year-old Waltham resident Nicholas Dagostino with fatal head injuries. Prosecutors say the men argued over a blocked parking lot entrance before the defendant allegedly slammed Dagostino to the ground; Dagostino died two days later. The suspect pleaded not guilty, is held on $10,000 cash bail with travel and contact restrictions, and is due back in court November 10.

• These Forgotten 11 Massachusetts Towns Once Powered America's Industrial Revolution (takingthekids.com) — Waltham gets a spotlight as one of eleven historic Massachusetts mill towns that once powered America's industrial growth, with special attention to its pioneering Boston Manufacturing Company mill and famed Waltham Watch Company. The piece encourages an easy half-day visit from Boston, walking the Charles River path by the original mill and exploring museum exhibits on early factory life and watchmaking. It also highlights Moody Street's dense mix of restaurants and a restored movie theater, making Waltham appealing for both history buffs and food lovers.
