UMass Memorial Opens Healing Garden In Worcester
The garden was funded through a $1 million donation from local community leaders Dot and Mike Tsotsis.
WORCESTER, MA — A new outdoor space at UMass Memorial Medical Center offers patients, families and caregivers a place for reflection and respite.
UMass Memorial Health held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday for the Tsotsis Family Healing Garden at the North Pavilion on the hospital’s University Campus. The garden was funded through a $1 million donation from local community leaders Dot and Mike Tsotsis and is expected to serve more than 20,000 patients, family members and staff each year.
The donation was the first major gift to the North Pavilion building campaign. UMass Memorial Health named the garden for the Tsotsis family in recognition of their support for community health and well-being.
Visitors can reach the garden from the building’s main entrance by crossing a footbridge over an existing stream. The wooded space includes an enhanced pathway and boardwalk, seating areas, lighting and native landscaping.
Hospital leaders, donors, staff and community members attended the opening ceremony.
The North Pavilion is an inpatient facility with 72 private patient rooms and 24 additional rooms under construction. The facility was designed to expand the hospital’s inpatient capacity and support patient- and family-centered care.
