Worcester Regional Airport Names New Director
A veteran aviation manager has been selected to lead the airport following the retirement of its longtime director.
WORCESTER, MA — A veteran aviation manager has been selected to lead Worcester Regional Airport following the retirement of its longtime director.
Matthew Elia became the airport’s director effective Monday, the Massachusetts Port Authority announced. Elia has 20 years of airport management experience and succeeds Andy Davis, who retired in July after leading the airport for nearly 18 years.
“I am excited to welcome Matthew Elia to Worcester Regional Airport,” Massport CEO Rich Davey said. “Matthew will bring years of experience in airport management to Worcester and will be working closely with our airline partners and the community to make sure the airport continues to be an integral part of Central Massachusetts.”
Elia most recently worked as a senior airport planner with Hoyle Tanner & Associates, developing airport master plans and technical analyses for airports across New England and Florida.
He previously served as assistant airport manager at Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis, aviation manager for the city of Tavares, Florida, assistant airport manager at New Bedford Regional Airport and assistant airport manager for King Aviation at Mansfield Municipal Airport.
“Matthew will build on the legacy of Andy Davis, who helped bring multiple airlines and flights to Central Massachusetts,” Massport Executive Director of Aviation Sharon Williams said. “Matthew will build on this and ensure the continued success of the airport.”
Elia serves on the Massachusetts Airport Management Association’s board of directors and Bridgewater State University’s Aviation Industry Advisory Board. He has taught aviation management and marketing at Bridgewater State and Daniel Webster College.
Elia is also a commercial pilot and certified flight instructor. He holds a bachelor’s degree in aviation from Bridgewater State and an MBA from UMass Dartmouth.
