WORCESTER, MA — A college in Worcester is preparing to bring a rapidly growing sport to its campus.

Assumption University will add women’s flag football beginning in fall 2027, with the Greyhounds set to compete in spring 2028. Assumption will be among the first colleges in the Northeast to establish a program, according to the university.

Flag football joined the NCAA’s Emerging Sports for Women program in January 2026, a step intended to support its growth at the collegiate level.
