WORCESTER, MA — The City of Worcester will rename a portion of Mayfield Street on Friday in honor of Douglas J. Hannam Jr., a longtime local Little League leader and community volunteer.

City officials will hold a “Doug Hannam Way” street renaming ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday along the stretch of Mayfield Street from Parker Street to Chandler Street, which runs alongside Beaver Brook Park. Hannam, a lifelong Worcester resident, died on May 31, 2025.

The community leader was involved with Ted Williams Little League for more than 55 years, serving as a player, umpire, coach, league president and board member. Ted Williams Little League plays at Beaver Brook Park.

He later served as the District 4 Little League administrator from 1999 to 2012, overseeing youth baseball and softball programs from tee-ball through age 17. He retired in 2012 from both his Little League role and from St. Gobain.

He graduated from South High School and attended Worcester Junior College, and also served on the Worcester Parks Commission and the Worcester Advisory Board, according to his obituary.

City officials are expected to attend Friday’s ceremony.
