Police said the E-bike operator, a 40-year-old man, is expected to survive.

WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man is facing charges after police said he left the scene of a crash that seriously injured an E-bike rider.

Worcester police were called to Highland Street at about 7:42 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run crash with injury. Police said the E-bike operator, a 40-year-old man, was hit by a vehicle that left the scene.

The rider was taken to a hospital with serious facial injuries, according to police. He is expected to survive.

An off-duty Massachusetts State Police trooper saw the vehicle leave the scene and followed it, providing updates to dispatch, police said. Worcester officers later stopped the vehicle on Pleasant Street.

Police arrested Sebastiao Perpetuo, 49, after an investigation revealed that his driver’s license was suspended and that he had an active arrest warrant.

Perpetuo was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, operating a motor vehicle after suspension and the warrant.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Worcester police thanked the State Police trooper for helping officers locate the vehicle.
