Haley Stevens Announces Engagement, Plans Israel Trip After Senate Loss (vinnews.com) — Birmingham Congresswoman Haley Stevens has announced her engagement to Huntington Woods attorney Jason Turkish, just weeks after narrowly losing the Democratic U.S. Senate primary. The couple, who met in 2022, are currently traveling in Italy and will visit Israel next to connect with Turkish's family and meet survivors of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.
   

2. Early, late swing plays allow North Farmington to escape Wayne State with 14-13 win over Groves (theoaklandpress.com) — Birmingham Groves' football team narrowly fell 14-13 to North Farmington in their season opener at Wayne State, missing a potential game-winning field goal in the final minute. Star running back Jeremiah Whitley racked up 178 rushing yards, while the Falcons now look ahead to a Week 2 road trip to Berkley.
   

3. Detroit man sentenced for role in auto theft ring (candgnews.com) — Birmingham police were among many metro Detroit departments helping state investigators dismantle a large auto theft ring operating across the tri-county area. A Detroit man has now been sentenced to five to 20 years in prison, one of 15 defendants punished since 2024 for targeting high-end vehicles at lots, dealerships, and homes.
   

4. Man accused of masturbating in 12 Oaks Mall to get psych exam; has prior conviction for aggravated indecent exposure (theoaklandpress.com) — A man with a prior aggravated indecent exposure conviction out of Birmingham is now facing new indecent exposure charges tied to an alleged incident at 12 Oaks Mall in Novi. A district judge has ordered a competency evaluation, with a follow-up court date set for October.
