'I thought we were gonna die': Detroit man faces judge for assaulting two teen girls (clickondetroit.com) — A Detroit teen testified in 36th District Court that she feared she would be killed after a man allegedly pointed a gun at her and another girl inside a Detroit home. Prosecutors say the 28-year-old, whom Detroit Police arrested, faces multiple assault and firearm charges and has been bound over for trial while remaining on tether and bond.
   

3. Utica Community Schools celebrate opening of Graebner Elementary after reconstruction (cbsnews.com) — A newly reconstructed Graebner Elementary in Utica Community Schools, featured by CBS News Detroit, reopens to students on Monday with a safer, more modern layout. Classrooms are now grouped into grade-level learning communities with added natural light, libraries, and collaborative spaces. The project is part of a broader bond-funded upgrade across the district's 40 sites.
   

4. Ethnic parishes seek to keep identities under Archdiocese of Detroit proposals (detroitnews.com) — Catholic parishes across the Archdiocese of Detroit, including ethnic communities in Detroit, Warren, Southfield, and beyond, are bracing for possible weekend Mass cuts and parish groupings under a major restructuring plan. Vietnamese, Lithuanian, Italian, and other ethnic congregations worry about losing language-specific services, cultural programs, and financial independence as church leaders weigh demographics, priest shortages, and aging buildings.
   

5. 'This is the captain. I'm the one that's ill.' Delta flight from LA to Boston makes emergency landing in Detroit (bostonglobe.com) — A Delta flight from Los Angeles to Boston made an emergency landing at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport after the captain reported feeling ill and requested hospital care. Firefighters met the plane, one person was taken to the hospital, and a new crew later continued the flight to Boston, with Delta apologizing for the disruption.
