The piece explains how these right-then-U-turn intersections work and why MDOT says they significantly cut crashes and improve traffic flow, even if they confuse newcomers.

The north and southbound I-75 ramps from westbound I-696 have reopened after a $280 million reconstruction, shortening commutes and relieving cut-through traffic in Ferndale, Royal Oak, Madison Heights, Hazel Park and nearby neighborhoods, though MDOT says additional work will continue into 2027.
