• Applications open for Kalamazoo County Homes for All funds (woodtv.com) — Kalamazoo County is now accepting applications for $10.5 million in Homes for All millage funds to expand and preserve affordable housing, including rentals, new homes, repairs and stability services. Local nonprofits, developers, governments and schools can apply through Oct. 23, potentially shaping new housing options and support programs for Kalamazoo residents with the greatest financial need.
   

• Kalamazoo 10-year-old recovering after being hit by bullet 'unintentionally' fired through 2nd floor of home (wzzm13.com) — A 10-year-old Kalamazoo boy is recovering at home after police say an adult sibling unintentionally fired a gun on the second floor of their Davis Street house, sending a bullet through the floor into his shoulder. Kalamazoo Public Safety stresses that social media rumors about a stray bullet from neighbors are false and asks anyone with information to contact investigators or submit an anonymous Silent Observer tip.
   

• Kalamazoo schools still using bottled water after boil water advisory lifted (woodtv.com) — Although Kalamazoo's boil water advisory has been lifted, Kalamazoo Public Schools and Western Michigan University are still relying on bottled or boiled water while they flush systems and adjust food service. City and county officials are urging residents to flush household plumbing, discard old ice and clean faucet aerators as they work with the state to improve future alert communications.
