Waverly Community Schools sees first day of school after construction (wlns.com) — Families in the Lansing area can breathe easier after Waverly Community Schools opened on time Monday, despite intense last‑minute construction at Elmwood and Winans elementary schools. Parents described anxiety over exposed wires and unfinished work before open houses, but the superintendent says buildings were safe, crediting staff for a rapid turnaround as the district continues a multi‑phase expansion, including Colt Early Childhood Center opening after Labor Day.
   

2. Roaches around the water heater: What Ingham County food inspectors found (lansingstatejournal.com) — Ingham County health inspectors recently cited several Lansing restaurants, including spots on Cedar, Turner, Waverly, Saginaw, Mt. Hope and Michigan Avenue, for issues like unsafe food temperatures, sanitizer problems, plumbing repairs, and even roaches.
